Beloit Bests 'Caps in Series Opener

The West Michigan Whitecaps spotted the Beloit Snappers a 4-run lead before fighting back only to fall to the Snappers, 4-3, in Beloit on Friday night. The game was the first of a holiday weekend series between the two clubs in Wisconsin.

The Snappers scored three in the third and one in the fourth for a 4-0 lead before the Whitecaps got on the board.

In the top of the fifth, 'Caps third baseman Kody Kirkland doubled in a run to make it a 4-1 score. Two innings later, Kirkland blasted a two-run homer to get the Whitecaps within one run. Kirkland got one more plate appearance with two on and two in the ninth but struck out to end the game.

Juan Francia got two hits for West Michigan to extend his personal hitting streak to 11 games for West Michigan.

The Whitecaps and Snappers meet again on Saturday night at 7:30 Michigan time in game two of their weekend series.
