Prince George, BC - The Calgary Hitmen returned to the CN Centre in Prince George for the first time since 2019, kicking off the B.C. Division road trip. A close battle resulted in the 3-2 loss to the Western Conference leaders.
Prince George opened the scoring in the first period, with Keanton Dowhaniuk capitalizing on a five-minute power play, after defenceman Carter Yakemchuk was ejected from the game. Zac Funk followed up netting Prince George's second of the game giving them a 2-0 lead heading into the second.
The second period would belong to Calgary, with Ethan Moore cutting the lead in half off a pass from David Adaszynski. There was no shortage of offensive opportunity for Calgary with the club outshooting Prince George 27-17 heading into the final frame. Calgary continued their momentum in the third, capitalizing on a four-minute power play opportunity, with Sean Tschigerl finding the back of the net for his 16th of the season. Looking like the game was headed to extra minutes, Hudson Thorton scored off a shot from the point to take the lead with 1:40 left in regulation, sealing the victory for Prince George.
Shots finished up 37 - 23 in favour of Calgary. Sean Tschigerl earned second star. The veteran forward now has goals his last three. Ethan Moore extended his point streak to four games with his goal in tonight's contest. Calgary now sits with a record of 13-16-3-1.
Calgary's road trip resumes Saturday, Dec. 30 in Kelowna against the Rockets. Game time is 8:05 p.m. MT. The swing will also take the club to Victoria (Jan 1), Langley to meet the Vancouver Giants (Jan. 3) before wrapping in Kamloops (Jan. 5). Calgary will then open a seven-game homestand on Sunday, Jan. 7 against the Edmonton Oil Kings. Game time is 2:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome in another Sunday Funday presented by Brookfield Residential.
