Cougars' Early Lead Slips Away in 5-2 Loss to Blazers

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Cougars had a terrific start; however, they were unable to sustain it as the Kamloops Blazers defeated the Cats 5-2 on Saturday at the CN Centre.

The Cougars came out hot in the opening minutes as Koehn Ziemmer found the back of the net once again, 1:28 into the game. The game remained 1-0 in favor of Prince George through the opening frame, as they outshot Kamloops 12-9.

Things changed in a hurry in the second period in favor of the Blazers. Kamloops tied the game 46 seconds into the period with a short-handed tally. They then took their first lead of the game at 3:16 and added another at 7:03, which ended Josh Ravensbergen's night. Cooper Michaluk came in to relieve the Cougar netminder for the remainder of the game. Kamloops added a power-play goal at the 12:18 mark to open a 4-1 lead on Prince George. Borya Valis sparked some life into the Cats in the final minutes, scoring a gorgeous short-handed goal at 16:32 to get PG within two through 40 minutes.

In the third, the Blazers only registered two shots; however, one of them found the back of the net. Kamloops made it a 5-2 game at 4:54, which proved to be the backbreaker for Prince George.

Stats and Standouts:

Koehn Ziemmer scores his 117th goal and is now four goals away from becoming the PG Cougars all-time goal scoring leader.

What's Next...

- The Cougars home-stand continues on Tuesday night when they entertain Carlin Dezainde and the Swift Current Broncos.
