Prince George Cougars News Release
Kent, WA - A power-play goal from Koehn Ziemmer and 40 saves from Ty Young was not enough as the Prince George Cougars dropped the series opener to the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday at the accesso ShoWare Center.
The Thunderbirds got out to a hot start getting a wraparound goal from Dylan Guenther at 1:50 to get the home team ahead. In the later stages of the period, the Thunderbirds went to the power-play, and it was Guenther again who fired one by Ty Young to make it 2-0. The Cougars cut into the lead shortly after getting a power-play marker of their own from Koehn Ziemmer at 18:14 to make it 2-1 after 20.
There were no goals in the second period, however, both teams had great chances all period long. The Cougars had a 2 on 0 with Riley Heidt and Koehn Ziemmer but were unable to find the back of the net. PG got some tremendous goaltending from Ty Young in the period to keep the game at 2-1.
In the third, the T-Birds got a quick one 2:48 off a Lucas Ciona one-timer in the slot to make it 3-1. The Cougars had some chances but were unable to solve netminder Thomas Milic. Seattle ended up scoring an empty netter at 19:36 from Nico Myatovic to put the game out of reach.
