Kane County Cougars News Release

Lansing, MI - The Kane County Cougars held two different early leads, and the offense knocked out 12 hits, but for the second straight night they lost to the Lansing Lugnuts, this time falling 6-3 Wednesday at Oldsmobile Park. The Cougars, who have lost six consecutive games, are now 1-6 on their nine-game road trip.

Christian Vitters posted a second straight multi-hit game, and his two-out single in the first inning off A.J. Wideman scored Greg Dowling and gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead. After Cougars starter Craig Italiano, making his '07 debut after joining the team Tuesday night, allowed a run in the bottom of the inning, the Cougars regained control in the top of the second. Larry Cobb, who was promoted to the team Wednesday from extended spring training, bounced into a fielder's choice that brought home Alex Valdez to make it 2-1.

Italiano labored through the third inning, allowing three more runs and leaving after the frame. He allowed a total of four runs -- three earned -- on six hits, walked two and struck out four in three innings. T.J. Franco gave up a pair of Lugnuts tallies in the fourth for a 6-2 score.

The Cougars' offense, which stranded 10 runners, missed out on a few scoring opportunities. They left the bases loaded two different times, scoring their final run in the seventh when Vitters again singled in Dowling. Wideman (2-0) recorded the win, Italiano (0-1) suffered the loss, and Seth Overbey hooked his third save.

Game 3 of the series is Thursday night at 5:05 CDT. Inoel Deaza (0-1, 5.87) will pitch for the Cougars (1-10) against Chase Lirette (1-0, 0.00) for Lansing (8-1).
