Peoria Chiefs News Release

Midland, MI - The Peoria Chiefs and the Great Lakes Loons game scheduled for Wednesday night at Dow Diamond has been rained out. The two teams will play a pair of seven inning games in a double header Thursday scheduled to begin at 5:35 pm EST. It is the first cancellation in the history of Dow Diamond which opened last Friday and the fourth cancellation in the 2007 season for the Chiefs.

Peoria will throw RH Jose Pina (0-1, 1.80) in game one and RH Rafael Dolis (1-1, 4.00) in game two. Great Lakes will counter with top prospect, LH Clayton Kershaw (1-0, 1.23) in game one and RH Steven Johnson (0-1, 7.50) in game two. The Loons have lost their first three home games in franchise history, two against Lansing and one against Peoria.

Peoria took the opener of the four game series Tuesday night 4-2 behind strong pitching from Billy Muldowney (2-1) and relievers Jeremy Papelbon and Rocky Roquet. Jonathon Mota collected two RBI on his first hit of the season while Matt Camp and Josh Lansford added RBI later in the contest. The Chiefs have won two in a row and are at 5-5 on the season. Thursday's double header will be the Chiefs second on the road this season as they were swept 4-0 and 2-1 last Thursday at Quad Cities. With the opening lost today, the Chiefs are now the only team in the Midwest League who has not lost a game to inclement weather in 2007.
