Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
The Cedar Rapids Kernels, along with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, announced that catcher Brett Martinez will join the team in South Bend, IN, effective today, and be available for tonight's game with the Silver Hawks.
To make room on the active roster, it was also announced that INF Mark Trumbo will be placed on the disabled list, effective April 16. Trumbo was struck on the wrist by a pitch back last Saturday and had been listed as day-to-day.
Martinez joins the Kernels from the Angels' extended spring training complex in Tempe AZ. This will be his fourth stint with the team. In 2006, Martinez batted .226 with 4 HR and 35 RBI in 100 games. The Redlands, California native was drafted by the Angels in the 24th round of the 2002 draft out of Riverside (CA) Community College.
The move leaves the Kernels roster at 25 active players, the maximum allowed in the MWL.
