Prince George Cougars News Release
PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Cougars have acquired 2002-born forward Chase Wheatcroft from the Winnipeg ICE, in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft, the team announced Friday.
Wheatcroft, a product of Calgary, AB, split the 2021-22 season between the Lethbridge Hurricanes and the Winnipeg ICE. In 55 games, the 6'2," 176-pound forward had 16 goals and 22 assists. Wheatcroft had six points (1G-5A) in 15 playoff games with Winnipeg.
"He is a veteran player that brings a lot of experience from his time in Lethbridge and Winnipeg, including making the Eastern Conference Final this season. That will be a big asset for our young core," said Cougars' General Manager & Head Coach Mark Lamb. "Chase is a skilled forward that we feel he can be a key piece up front for next season."
Wheatcroft broke into the WHL with the Hurricanes during the 2019-20 season and has played in 137 career regular season games over three seasons and has posted 31 goals and 51 assists. He was signed by the Hurricanes in December 2018.
Wheatcroft is the second overage forward to be added to the Cougars' roster in the last month. In May, Prince George acquired 20-year-old forward Nolan Boyko from the Saskatoon Blades. Boyko and Wheatcroft were teammates in Lethbridge for parts of three seasons.
