
Cota Returns, RedHawks Sign Delgado

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have agreed to terms with 2B Carlo Cota and signed C Ryan Delgado for the 2012 season. The RedHawks now have 25 players on the active roster.
Cota, 31, returns to Fargo-Moorhead for his fifth season with the RedHawks. In 2011, he batted .287 with 32 doubles, 13 home runs, 51 RBIs and 55 runs scored in 100 games. Cota tied for the league lead in games played in and tied for fifth in doubles. Cota was stellar on the defensive end as well and set American Association records for total chances (575), put outs (222) and assists (341) by a second baseman.
In his ten-year career, Cota has batted .281 with 250 doubles, 14 triples, 80 home runs, 458 RBIs and 574 runs scored in 947 games. He is 25 hits away from 1,000 in his career. Cota was originally selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 33rd round of the 2002 draft out of San Diego State University, and reached the Triple-A level in their organization.
Delgado, 24, joins the RedHawks after spending the past two seasons in the Atlanta Braves organization. He made three stops on 2011, seeing time at Danville of the Appalachian League (R), Rome of the South Atlantic League (A) and Lynchburg of the Carolina League (High-A). He batted .255 with six doubles, two triples, two home runs, 15 RBIs and nine runs scored in 32 games.
The RedHawks open 2012 Training Camp on Saturday, May 5 with a workout at Concordia College. The team will be at Concordia due to NDSU's doubleheader with Southern Utah University at Newman Outdoor Field.
The RedHawks have seven exhibition games scheduled before opening the 2012 season on Thursday, May 17 at El Paso. The scheduled games are:

REDHAWKS NOTES
. The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have released RHP Dan Blewett and RHP Jack Frawley. Both pitchers, who saw time with Fargo-Moorhead in 2011, are free agents.
