St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (April 30, 2012) - Amateur baseball stretches from every corner of the state of Minnesota. Before professional baseball was a glimmer in the state's eye townball teams were entertaining their local communities. From Ada to Zumbrota and everywhere in between these games are often the purest form of the sport. Amateur teams have played at Midway Stadium for many years, but for the St. Paul Saints the opportunity to immerse the organization in the rich tradition of amateur baseball and play games on those fields is something truly special. For the fifth consecutive season the Saints will highlight their exhibition schedule with a game against an amateur team on their turf.

The Saints will take on the Hinckley Knights/East Minny All-Star Team in a 3:00 p.m. showdown at The Brennan presented by Killebrew Root Beer. The Knights have appeared in the state tournament 20 times and have finished third three times. They were both league and playoff champions as recently as 2004. The East Minny All-Star team will be made of players from the Mora Blue Devils, Princeton Panthers, Quamba Cubs, Rum River Bandits, Nowthen Knights and Chisago Lake Bulldogs. Prior to the game both sides will square off in a home run derby.

The games against the Knights/Minny East All-Star teams will help raise money for their ballpark.

"It is the right time for these legendary teams to play one another in our 2012 exhibition game fundraiser," said President of RJM Distributing Jim Lundeen. "Killebrew Root Beer is very proud to present this opportunity to the fans of the Hinckley Knights and the Hinckley community".

Tickets for the exhibition game at The Brennan are $5 for adults and $3 for kids 13 and under. Tickets for the game can be purchased at various locations in the Hinckley area. For a list of those locations go to: l l&p=home.

The Saints began their barnstorming tradition in 2008 when they celebrated the 100th Anniversary of Jack Ruhr Field in Miesville, taking on the Miesville Mudhens. In 2009, they played at the same field against the Cannon Valley League All-Stars. In the 2010 season, the Saints played the River Valley All-Stars at Athletic Park in Chaska and the Riverview League All-Stars at Minnetonka's Veterans Field. Last season the Saints played at Cold Spring Park against the Cold Spring Springers and were scheduled to play against the St. Paul Amateur All-Stars at Toni Stone Field, but the game was rained out. All proceeds from these games went to support baseball programs in respective communities.

The exhibition season kicks off for the Saints on Sunday, May 6 with a 7:02 p.m. game at Newman Outdoor Field against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. The Saints will play two more exhibition road games when they head to Shaw Park for 7:00 p.m. contests on Monday, May 7 and Tuesday, May 8 to take on the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

The home portion of the Saints exhibition schedule gets started on Friday, May 11 with a 10:35 a.m. game against the Cannon Valley All-Stars. The team will be made up of players from the Savage Outlaws, Burnsville Bobcats, Elko Express, Rosemount Black Sox, Eagan Bandits, Lakeville Athletics and IGH Diamond Kings. It's the first time an amateur team has played the Saints at Midway Stadium. This is the second time in franchise history the Saints have played the Cannon Valley All-Stars, doing so in 2009. It's Education Day at the ballpark as students from all over the Twin Cities will take their studies outside of the classroom.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes visit Midway Stadium for a 1:05 p.m. Mother's Day contest on Sunday, May 13. No comment from the peanut gallery on this day as it is a Peanut Free Day. The final exhibition game is Monday, May 14 against the Goldeyes at 7:05 p.m.

Tickets for all Saints exhibition and regular season home games are available now in person at the Saints Box Office, by phone at 651-644-6659 or online at saintsbaseball.com.
