Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish established a new single-season record for rushing yards by a Canadian during Friday's 30-27 win over the Edmonton Eskimos.

Cornish, who needed 50 yards to break Normie Kwong's 56-year-old record of 1,437 yards coming into the contest, set the record with a 22-yard run at the end of the third quarter. He finished the night with 69 yards and the regular season with 1,457 yards.

"(Normie Kwong) has always been that name," said Cornish. "He's been the top of the top for Canadian running backs. For me to now be mentioned at the same time as him is an honour."

Cornish leads the Canadian Football League rushing race by 214 yards as he attempts to become the first Canadian to win the rushing title since 1988. His closest pursuer, Saskatchewan's Kory Sheets, plays his final game on Saturday.

Tickets for the West Division semifinal at McMahon Stadium are on sale now at Ticketmaster or by calling the Stamps Ticket Office at 403-289-0258.
