(Edmonton) - During the second quarter of tonight's game against the Calgary Stampeders, the Edmonton Eskimos proudly presented a $450,000 cheque to the Edmonton Huskies Football Club, Edmonton Wild Cats Football Club, University of Alberta Golden Bears, Football Alberta and the Eskimo Alumni Association to support the promotion of minor football in Northern Alberta.

"We're firmly committed to creating a stronger football community in Northern Alberta," says Eskimo President and CEO Len Rhodes. "This money will help amateur football develop talent and create dreams. One day, some of these kids will wear green and gold."

This year's contribution is 53 per cent higher than in 2011. The increase is due to a new automated 50/50 program where at every Eskimo home game one lucky fan takes home half of the money raised and the other half goes to support minor football. This season, the average take-home winnings were over $78,000 and surpassed the $100,000 mark three times. Heading to the last game of the season, the total amount given to winners is $708,686.
