
Esks JC Sherritt sets new CFL tackling record

(Edmonton) - During the 4th quarter of tonight's game against the Calgary Stampeders, Eskimo middle linebacker JC Sherritt broke the league-record for defensive tackles in a single season.
The previous record of 129 was set by Toronto Argonaut Calvin Tiggle in 1994. Last Sunday, Sherritt broke the team record of 117 defensive tackles set by Willie Pless in 1998.
Heading into tonight's game, Sherritt had a league-leading 119 defensive tackles (eight for a loss), two knockdowns and five interceptions for 56 yards. He also had two sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and contributed on special teams with three tackles. Sherritt is a three-time CFL Defensive Player of the Week and three-time CFL Player of the Month. Last year's Western Nominee for Rookie of the Year, he was named the Eskimo nominee for the Gibson's Finest CFL Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Defensive Player.
