Cornelius Bonner named ADT Defensive Player of the Week

Las Vegas, NV , May 11, 2004 â Las Vegas Gladiators' defensive specialist Cornelius Bonner has been named the ADT Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in leading the Gladiators to a 63-35 win over the Philadelphia Soul on Saturday in Philadelphia.
A three-year veteran of the Arena Football League, Bonner (6'0" 195, Cincinnati) set a new Gladiator record with three interceptions, returning one 50 yards for a touchdown. Bonner also recovered a fumble, broke up another pass and totaled three tackles on defense. This marks the first time that the former BearCat has earned an AFL weekly honor.
On the season, Bonner, who was recently switched from WR/DB to defensive specialist, has five interceptions and 44.5 tackles. On offense, before being moved to DS, Bonner was the Gladiators second leading receiver, hauling in 54 passes for 720 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Along with Bonner, other players receiving league recognition for their play in week fourteen were Arizona Rattlers quarterback Sherdrick Bonner, who was named Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Week and Orlando Predators WR/LB Cory Fleming, who was named Army Ironman Player of the Week.
The Gladiators are back home this Sunday in a pivotal game against Western Division leading San Jose. The SaberCats have already clinched a spot in the Drive For ArenaBowl XVIII Playoffs and the Gladiators have to win to keep their own playoff hopes alive. All the action kicks off at 3:00 PM PT on Sunday at the Thomas & Mack Center
