Cobras Lose OL/DL Troy Pelshak For Season
May 11, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Carolina Cobras News Release
CHARLOTTE â The Carolina Cobras of the Arena Football League announced today that offensive/defensive lineman Troy Pelshak has been placed on the injured reserve due to a quadriceps injury suffered in Saturday's loss to the New York Dragons. The injury will force the Charlotte native to miss the final three game of the 2004 season. The club also announced the release of defensive specialist Daryon Brutley and wide receiver/defensive back Ernest Ross.
Pelshak (6-3, 258, North Carolina A&T) showed rapid improvement throughout his first season in the AFL, leading all Cobras linemen with 9.0 tackles and two sacks. The former Garinger High School standout was a featured part of the Cobras line over the last seven weeks after being used sparingly over the first six games of the campaign. Pelshak joined Carolina for the 2004 AFL season after enjoying a productive NFL career with the St. Louis Rams, where he earned a Super Bowl ring during the 1999 season. The Nigerian-born lineman will undergo further testing to evaluate the extent of the injury.
"Troy has been such a big part of our offensive and defensive line over the last two months," said Cobras interim head coach Ron Selesky. "He has worked very hard this season and has really developed into a force on the line for our team. We all hope for a quick and full recovery."
Brutley (5-11, 187, Northern Iowa) joined the Cobras for his first season in the AFL after seeing time in the Philadelphia Eagles (NFL) defensive backfield during the 2003 season. The former Northern Iowa standout posted 22.5 tackles and a team-high five passes defended in nine games for Carolina.
Ross (5-11, 186, Alabama-Birmingham) saw the majority of his playing time over the last five weeks after seeing action in only one of the Cobras first eight contests. The second-year player notched 16.5 tackles and four passes defended in extended playing time at defensive specialist.
Carolina will take the field once again this Saturday, May 15 against the Philadelphia Soul. The contest is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. (EST) at the Wachovia Spectrum.
The Cobras return to the Queen City for the team's 2004 home finale against the Grand Rapids Rampage on May 22. This season's final home contest will be highlighted by the annual Fan Appreciation Day in which all fans in attendance will have the opportunity to win hundreds of gifts and prize packages including vacation getaways, golf outings, spa treatments and much, much more.
