Willmar Stingers News Release

WILLMAR, MN - The Willmar Stingers walked it off against the Waterloo Bucks, 3-2.

The Stingers were down the majority of the game and were able to produce back-t0-back innings with a run to come out on top. Willmar's only lead came when the final run scored.

The Bucks scored two runs right off the bat in the top of the first. Waterloo's Clayton Gray got an RBI single and Josh Patrick sent a runner home on a sac fly.

The Stingers were unable to get a run until the bottom of the fourth. Joey Walls was a menace on the bases. He got on base via a walk, stole two bases, and was able to advance home on a wild pitch to make the score 2-1.

Both teams remained scoreless until the Stingers tied the game in the bottom of the eighth. Zac Corbin started off the inning with a double and was able to cross home plate after a botched double play attempt went over the second baseman's head allowing Corbin to tie the game at 2-2.

The Stingers put the game to bed when Corbin came up in the bottom of the ninth with two outs sending home Dalton Pearson on a line drive to right field to win the game. Corbin was named the MinnWest Technology Campus Player of the Game for heroics in tonight's win.

The Willmar Stingers are now a game ahead of The St. Cloud Rox for first place in the Great Plains West. The Stingers will face the Waterloo Bucks tomorrow for their last meeting of the season. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
