Madison Mallards News Release

Madison, WI - The Mallards dropped their seventh straight game on Sunday afternoon against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters by a final score of 4-3.

The longest losing streak of the season continued at Warner Park to wrap up the home-and-home series with the Rafters. Mitchell Leroy (5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER) logged another solid start against the Rafters as he struck out six, his second highest total of the season. He exited after the top of the 5th inning allowing two runs and committing the only Mallards' error of the ballgame just one night after the team threw up five errors. Wisconsin Rapids extended their lead to three when Colin Tuft hit a solo home run beyond the fence in left field off reliever Kyle Walter.

Madison's offense ignited in the bottom of the 7th when J.T. Mabry drove home Adrian Mella to start the scoring. Later in the inning, Liam Moreno singled to score Mabry to cut the lead to one. The Rafters added much needed insurance in the top of the 9th off Reed Butz on a ground ball up the middle which was touched by the Ducks' pitcher and then bounced over Estevan Moreno's glove at shortstop. The Mallards showed good fight in the bottom of the 9th inning when Mabry singled off Rafters' closer Preston Howey. The lineup card then flipped for J.J. Rollon and he was able to slice a double down the right field line to put the tying run in scoring position. Liam Moreno knocked in Mabry with a groundout to cut the lead down to one for Josh Caron. Caron cracked a line drive to third base but was caught by the Rafters' All-Star third baseman Garrett Broussard. Chad McCann hit a hard groundout to end the ballgame.

The Mallards third straight home-and-home set begins tomorrow from Athletic Park in Wausau against the Woodchucks. First pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 6:35 PM with Mallards' coverage beginning on Mixlr at 6:30 PM.
