Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters rode Aaron Forrest all the way for a 5-0 complete game shutout of the Battle Creek Battle Jacks on Sunday afternoon.

Forrest (4-1, 2.84) registered the first shutout in 60 games (August 8, 2021, vs Rockford) and the first complete game since August 18 (Joe Horoszco vs Madison). Forrest only registered two strikeouts but allowed a season-low three hits as he went the distance.

Traverse City broke through in the first inning. After trailing the whole game yesterday, they took the lead on a Brennen Dorighi RBI single up the middle. Dorighi finished the game 4-4, all singles.

Forrest had a no-hitter until the fifth inning when he gave up a one-out single. He immediately got a double play to erase the baserunner.

The Pit Spitters went scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when they got an RBI single from Camden Traficante. Traficante increased his team RBI lead with his 28th of the season.

In the top of the eighth, Battle Creek got two hits with two outs. With just their second runner in scoring position, Charlie Rhee lifted one to right center field. Marshall Toole made an unbelievable full extension diving catch to save at least one run and to preserve the shutout.

Forrest got more insurance in the bottom half. Fresh off his diving catch, Toole singled home a run. After a wild pitch scored another, Toole tried to steal home which forced a balk and made it 5-0.

Forrest finished off the complete game shutout with a 1-2-3 ninth inning. It's the first shutout of the season, and it earned pitchers a chance to take batting practice as a result.
