Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters snapped their five-game win streak with a 9-7 loss to the Battle Creek Battle Jacks on Saturday night.

The loss means the Pit Spitters clinch a losing record at home to the Battle Jacks this season. They went 6-0 at home last year. They are also 3-6 against Battle Creek on the season.

The Battle Jacks an early lead with a solo home run in the second and never looked back. They went up 2-0 in the inning. The Pit Spitters got one back with a Jacob Charon RBI single, but the Battle Jacks took the two-run lead back in the top of the third.

Trey Truitt doubled home a run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to one again, but for the second time they left the tying run on base. Battle Creek took advantage with two more runs in the top of the fifth. Brennen Dorighi responded with an RBI single in the bottom half to make it 5-3.

The Battle Jacks used a big Pit Spitter error to take their biggest lead of the game in the top of the sixth. A three-run inning put them up 8-3. From there, the Pit Spitters started to rally.

They got two of their own in the sixth with another Truitt RBI double. He scored on a groundout by Dallas Duarte. Colin Summerhill tripled home a run in the seventh, but he was thrown out trying to score on an inside-the-park home run. At the start of the eighth, the game went into a rain delay with the score 8-6.

The almost 50-minute delay zapped the Pit Spitter momentum as Battle Creek got another unearned run in the eighth. The Pit Spitters made it interesting in the ninth, bringing the tying run to the plate, but came up just short.
