Connor Hurley to Participate in 2013 World Junior A Challenge

MUSKEGON, Michigan (October 11th) - The Muskegon Lumberjacks are excited to announce that Forward Connor Hurley has been selected to participate for the U.S. Select Team in the 2013 World Junior A Challenge that takes place from November 4-10th in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

Hurley, the Eagan, Minnesota native, is currently in his first full season with the Lumberjacks after playing in 13 games last season totaling nine points (one goal and eight assists) combined between the regular season and playoffs. This season, Hurley has recorded six points (two goals and four assists) to go along with a plus-three rating in five games played.

"I am very excited, honored, and blessed that they picked me to be on the team, and I am ready to go out there and win a gold medal for my country," said Hurley. "We have a great team picked out, and I am excited to go to Nova Scotia and compete to the best of my abilities to help the team win it all."

Following his junior hockey career, Hurley will be playing collegiately for the University of Notre Dame out of the Hockey East Association and was also selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round (38th overall) during the 2013 NHL Entry Draft this past June.

The 2013 World Junior A Challenge features six teams from five different countries divided into two groupings (Canada East, Russia, and the United States in Group A followed by Canada West, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland in Group B). Each team will play two preliminary round games from November 4-6th (with one day off per team during that time) with the knockout stages beginning the following day leading up to the Gold Medal Game on November 10th.

The U.S. Select Team will play an exhibition game against Canada West on November 2nd before beginning their preliminary round play against Russia (November 5th) and Canada East (November 6th). The United States has claimed four out of the last five World Junior A Challenge Championships.

The Lumberjacks will hit the road this weekend for a pair of games beginning tonight against the Dubuque Fighting Saints at 8:35 pm followed by a game tomorrow with the Green Bay Gamblers at 8:05 pm.

The following weekend, the Lumberjacks will return home for a pair of games against the Sioux Falls Stampede on Friday, October 18th and Saturday, October 19th at 7:15 pm, respectively. Friday's game features the first of two trading card giveaways for the season, while Saturday's game features "Trick of Treat with the Jacks" and the return of our Subway Saturday promotion.

Individual game tickets are on sale for the low price of $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 3-12 if they are purchased before the day of the game. Tickets can be purchased at the Lumberjacks' Box Office or by calling (231) 724-5225.
