D Sasha Pokulok notched his 10th goal of the season, 1:26 into overtime, to lift the Condors to a 2-1 victory over the Reign Saturday night. RW Ryan Menei scored his second goal as a Condor and LW Shawn Weller assisted on both goals for Bakersfield. G Timo Pielmeier picked up the win making 22 saves.
PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:
The 2009-10 Condors are the fastest to 20 wins in team history, accomplishing the mark in game number 31. The 2004-05 Condors reached 20 wins in their 33rd game.
F Stephane Goulet extended his point streak to six games, recording 5g-3a during that stretch. Goulet and F Andrew Ianiero also had a seven-game streak earlier this season, which stands as the longest of the season.
RW Ryan Menei (right) currently has a five-game point streak (2g-4a). A goal on Saturday originally credited to C Maxime Macenauer was reviewed and changed, as Menei redirected it.
The Condors special teams have thrived on home ice this season, where the power play is ranked 2nd in the ECHL at 23.4% and the penalty kill is ranked 5th at 86.6%. The power play overall is ranked 4th and the penalty kill is 11th.
RW Dan Sexton, named to the National Conference All-Star Team last week, still ranks 9th among rookie scorers in the ECHL and leads the Condors with 13 goals, despite not playing in the ECHL since Nov. 22. Sexton is now in Anaheim, where he has 6g-5a-11pts in 15 games, ranking t-8th in the NHL in rookie goal scoring.
D Sasha Pokulok is bidding for a spot in the Condors record books with his 10 goals already this season. Only eight defensemen have ever had more than 10 goals in their Condors career, and he is one goal shy of cracking the Top 5 all-time single season defensemen goal scoring. Kevin Truelson holds the Condors record with 17 in 2006-07, while Rob Milliken holds the club record with 18, for the Fog in 1997-98.
The Condors have scored the first goal in less than half of their games (15 of 31), compiling a record of 13-1-1 when doing so. When surrendering the first goal, their record is 7-8-1.
Bakersfield has led after one period only six times all season, only once on the road.
