
Condors Have 12-Point Lead Heading Into All-Star Break

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors wrapped up a road trip with a 1-1-1 record last week, and went into the 2010 ECHL All-Star Break holding onto a 12-point lead in the Pacific Division standings. They have been in first place in the division since the beginning of the season, with a record of 23-10-2-1 and 49 points.

Condors 2 vs. ONTARIO 1, SO
Bakersfield erased a 1-0 deficit with just over four minutes to play in regulation, and prevailed in the shootout, 2-1 in Ontario. D Mark Mitera scored his second of the season at 15:40 on the power play to tie it up. G Timo Pielmeier was perfect on four shooters in the extra session, while D Sasha Pokulok and C Mathieu Aubin lit the lamp to decide the game.

VICTORIA 6 vs. Condors 3
A five-goal first period set the table for the Salmon Kings, and they held on for a 6-3 victory over the Condors Friday night, adding an empty netter to foil an attempted comeback. LW Shawn Weller, F Stephane Goulet and RW Ryan Menei each tallied for the Condors to cut the Victoria lead to 5-3, but it's as close as the score got.
Saturday, Jan. 16
VICTORIA 6 vs. Condors 5, SO
LW Shawn Weller had a hat trick to help Bakersfield come from behind four times against Victoria, who finally prevailed 6-5 in the shootout. RW Ryan Menei also lit the lamp for the Condors, as did C Gino Guyer with just 29 seconds left in regulation to force overtime and earn a point in the standings. F Mathieu Aubin scored in the shootout for Bakersfield.
PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:
- With a point in all three games last week, F Stephane Goulet now has an 11-game point streak, with 9g-8a-17pts during the stretch. The last time he played without getting on the scoresheet was Dec. 16. The Condors record is 17 games, set by Paul Willett in 1999-00.
- G Timo Pielmeier was a perfect 2-0 in the shootout prior to Saturday night, stopping all seven shooters he had faced. He has stopped 9 of 11 shooters thus far this season (.818).
- LW Shawn Weller's hat trick Saturday was the second of the season for the Condors, and the first since Nov. 21 (Dan Sexton). Weller also had a hat trick on Oct. 10 in preseason action against Stockton, and now leads the team with 16 goals.
- After going 32 games before scoring his first professional goal, D Mark Mitera scored in back-to-back games, on Jan. 10 and 13.
- The Condors power play had only eight opportunities last week, but had a goal in all three games. At 19.9%, they rank 5th in the ECHL.
- Bakersfield ranks 6th in the league in average shots per game, and 3rd in fewest shots allowed, for a difference of 5.52 shots per game. Only Idaho has a larger shot differential per game, at 6.49.

The ECHL Skills Competition and All-Star Game are Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, held in Ontario, California. Both will be carried free of charge on B2 Networks. The Condors host the Victoria Salmon Kings on Friday and Saturday before heading up to Stockton to take on the Thunder on Sunday. Friday's game is L.A. Meet and get your photo taken with former Dodger Great and World Series MVP Ron Cey, and up-and-coming southpaw hurler Brent Leach.
On Saturday, the ZOOperstars return to Condorstown, sponsored by KGET-TV 17, 101.5 KGFM and Mercy & Memorial Hospitals. The 10-foot tall inflatable animal/athlete mascots are a Bakersfield favorite and this year will be represented by Whale Gretzky, Peyton Manatee, Derek Cheetah, Ken Giraffey Jr., Shaquille O'Seal and Tiger Woodschuck.
With the NFC Playoff Game also taking place on Sunday on ESPN Radio, the game in Stockton will be broadcast on ESPN's sister station, KERN 1180. Tune in for Condors Countdown starting at 3:45 p.m.
