Condors drop Reign for 8th straight victory

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -The Bakersfield Condors (37-25-2-1, 77pts) scored two power play goals and two shorthanded goals, en route to handing the Ontario Reign (23-37-2-4, 52pts) a 5-2 loss in front of 5,509 fans at Rabobank Arena Saturday night. The win puts the Condors alone atop the Pacific Division, and in sole possession of 2nd place in the Western Conference.

Ontario took the lead just 43 seconds into the hockey game, when C Justin Taylor banged in a rebound for his 8th of the season. The Condors responded however, with a 5-on-3 power play tally at 6:32 to tie it up. F Slava Trukhno took a wrister from the right circle and buried it for his 11th of the campaign. Bakersfield managed a 20-9 shot lead in the first.

The Condors took their first lead of the night at 3:18 of the middle frame, when C Adam Naglich snapped home a shorthanded goal for his 15th of the season. The Reign responded with a late tally, as RW Alex Bourret rapped a centering feed past rookie G Jim Watt, making his first professional start tonight. Just 11 seconds later the Condors countered, with C Joel Broda chipping in his 15th of the season at 19:14. The goal regained the lead for good for Bakersfield.

The home team extended the lead in the third, with Broda potting his second of the contest on the power play at 10:05. Trukhno also added his second in the waning minutes with a shorthanded empty netter at 18:03 to ice it. Watt made 22 saves on the night for his first pro win, while the Condors put up 44 shots on the night.
