McCollum Perfect as Walleye Top Trenton

Trenton Devils News Release

Toledo, OH - Behind a 17-save shutout by Thomas McCollum, the Toledo Walleye bested the Trenton Devils, 1-0, at Huntington Center in downtown Toledo.

A former Detroit Red Wings first-round draft selection, McCollum rebounded after allowing five goals on 28 shots last night and earned his second shutout-win of the season, as Toledo won in regulation for the first time in seven tries against the Devils. The win also brought the Walleye to within four points of the Eastern Conference's final playoff position and improved their record to 30-30-2-4.

The only goal of the game was scored on a power play by 10-year ECHL veteran Randy Rowe, who netted his second game-winning goal of the season by finishing off a play set up by Jason Lepine, 3:18 into the first period.

Although the Devils had 56:42 to try to erase Toledo's one-goal lead, they only managed eight shots in the first period, four in the second and five in the third, while looking fatigued down the stretch of their fourth game in five days and having only 14 available skaters.

Jeff Lerg played well and stopped 41 of Toledo's 42 shots, but was the losing goalie on a day that Trenton was shut out for the fourth time this season, the second time in the last three games, and third time in March. For the Devils, the loss drops them to 24-35-2-6 and mathematically eliminates them from contention for a berth in the Kelly Cup playoffs.

The Devils have five games remaining in the 2010-11 season. The first of those five will be Wednesday at First Arena against the Elmira Jackals at 7:05 p.m.
