ECHL South Carolina Stingrays

Concannon Going to Camp

September 26, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC The South Carolina Stingrays have 22 players in training camp this season including long time fan favorite Rob Concannon. The Rays take to the ice at the Carolina Ice Palace on Sunday morning in preparation for the team's tenth anniversary season.

Concannon, an ECHL veteran, retired from hockey a year ago, but resides in Charleston. The Stingrays currently have four veterans under contract for the upcoming season (Brett Marietti, Dave Seitz, Marty Clapton, Joel Irving). Concannon would only be eligible to play if one of the four was taken off the active roster for any duration of time.

"Robby is in camp just to get himself in shape should he be needed," explained Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons. "Call-ups and injuries are common occurrences in a 72 game season. If he is needed this season, he wants to be ready."

Of the 22 players attending this season's training camp, 16 are currently under contract with the Stingrays. The Rays currently have three players attending American Hockey League training camp. Robin Gomez is currently at the Portland Pirates camp while Brent Henley and Aaron Schneekloth are attending the Worcester Ice Cats camp.
