Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones are pleased to welcome Train It Forward as they host a CPR training event on Saturday, June 20, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, prior to the T-Bones facing off against the Wichita Wingnuts at 7:05 p.m.
Registration, which is open to anyone over the age of 14, closes at noon on Friday, June 19. Event check-in will be from 5-5:30 p.m. on Saturday. No information or identification, other than first and last name, will be required at check-in. Participants are eligible for free child care during the training and entry into mid-inning drawings for additional prizes during the game.
Train it Forward, which began as a water safety and hands-on CPR foundation, was founded by Melanie and John Bakarich. Their mission is "to share our miracle by providing free water safety education and training to our friends, family and community."
The Bakariches started the foundation because their then-2 1/2 year-old son, Dax, nearly drowned on Aug. 17, 2013, at a swimming pool. A family friend, Andrea Hays, saved Dax's life by using CPR. With the near-tragedy avoided, the Bakariches started the foundation to educate and train people in life-saving techniques.
Train It Forward focuses on CPR training and eventually will encompass complete water safety training. They have partnered with the T-Bones for the first annual event, where the goal is to train 400 community members prior to the start of the game. This will be a FREE event to the public thanks to all of the sponsors.
Tickets for the June 20 game are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618.
