Explorers Make It Four Wins In A Row

The Sioux City Explorers made it four wins in a row after shutting out the Saltdogs 5-0 Tuesday Night at Lewis and Clark Park.

The X's kicked it off with a bang with centerfielder Matty Johnson leading off with a triple to start the bottom of the first inning. Johnson would go on to score later in the inning off an RBI single by Rene Tosoni.

In the third, Michael Lang led off with a single for Sioux City and then scored during the next at-bat when Rene Tosoni advancing Lang to second, and then an error by the right-fielder scored Lang from second to advance Tosoni giving the X's a 2-0 lead. Tosoni would score the second run of the inning off a one out RBI single to extend the Explorers lead 3-0.

Sioux City would wind up plating two more runs in the contest off an RBI single by Matt Koch in the fifth inning, and a two out double by Tommy Mendonca that scored Brock Kjeldgaard from second base. The X's would finish with five runs, off twelve hits with no errors.

Ryan Zimmerman (3-1) pitched an exciting complete game shutout for Sioux City. The right-hander faced 31 batters, allowing only four hits while striking out six. Saltdogs starter Luis Chirinos was charged with the loss going eight innings, allowing five runs on twelve hits, three walks with four strikeouts.

Rene Tosoni had a three hit night along with a run scored and an RBI for the Explorers. Ryan Court went 2 for 4 with an RBI and run scored, and Tommy Mendonca had himself a 2 for 4 outing as well along with an RBI double in the game.
