Utica Comets News Release

The Comets ran their win streak to four games Wednesday night, with a 3-2 win over the Binghamton Senators at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena, in Binghamton, NY.

Goaltender Joacim Eriksson stopped 27 of the Senators 29 shots for his second victory in as many games. Carter Bancks, Peter Andersson, and Bobby Sanguinetti each scored a goal in the win.

The Comets broke open the game's scoring 10:12 into the first period. Wacey Hamilton slammed a wraparound attempt into the pads of Andrew Hammond. After a couple attempts to slam the puck in, the puck squirted out to the far side crease and onto Bancks' stick. Uncontested, Bancks buried the puck into the net for his second goal of the year. Alex Biega recorded the secondary assist.

Just over a minute later the Senators knotted the game back up with Jean-Gabriel Pageau's second goal of the season. After Alex Grenier and Buddy Robinson battled along the boards at the hashmarks for the puck, the puck slipped out between the two, and found Pageau's stick at the face-off dot. Pageau quickly gained control of the puck, spun, and fired off a wrist shot that squeaked under and past the glove of Joacim Eriksson.

Just 3:22 into the second period the Comets grabbed the lead once again, this time for good. A scramble in front of Hammond's net led to the puck trickling out to the top of the slot. Peter Andersson raced in from the blue line and quickly sniped a shot over the glove of Hammond for his first goal of the season. Brendan Gaunce recorded an assist on the goal.

The Comets doubled their lead just a hair over four minutes later. Hemmed into their own defensive zone, Hunter Shinkaruk found a streaking Bobby Sanguinetti with a cross-ice pass through the neutral zone. After gaining the Senators zone, Sanguinetti dropped a pass to the trailing Cal O'Reilly who cut across the slot while he danced around two flailing Senators defenders. From there he slid the puck back to Sanguinetti on the backdoor who tapped it into the gaping net.

The Senators cut the Comets lead in half with a flukey goal just 39 seconds later. Chris Wideman started the goal-scoring play when he let loose a shot from the high slot that Eriksson saved and pushed to his left. Wideman followed up his rebound and put a second shot on goal that Eriksson saved. However, the rebound bounced straight up into the air and fell behind him and into the net. Derek Grant and Garrett Thompson notched assists on the goal.

The Comets penalty kill unit killed all four Senators' power plays, running their season total to 30 of 31.

The Comets next game is this Friday as the Binghamton Senators head to Utica to complete the home and home. The boys in blue will return to The AUD Friday for a Halloween themed re-match against the Senators at 7:05 p.m.
