Albany Devils News Release
ALBANY, NY - The Albany Devils erased a two-goal deficit and knocked off the Springfield Falcons, 4-2, Wednesday at Times Union Center. Graham Black, who had two goals, Mike Sislo and Scott Timmins combined for four consecutive goals, helping the Devils extend their winning streak to five games and remain unbeaten during regulation this season. They improve to a franchise-best 6-0-0-1, while the Falcons move to 3-4-1-0.
Albany trailed by two goals for the first time this season when Springfield's Ryan Craig scored at 1:10 and 7:02 of the first period.
Black answered with his first career goal at 14:51 before the intermission break.
"I'm very happy with the success I had today, but I wouldn't have been able to do it without [Stephan Matteau] and [Sislo] and everyone on our team today. Everyone was battling hard and the ice was kind of beaten up, so it's a team win today."
In the second, Sislo jammed in a rebound opportunity at 10:52 and Timmins picked the upper-right corner at 19:23. Sislo registered his fifth goal of the season and Timmins extended his point streak to seven games.
Black added his second of the night - a power-play goal - at 10:28 of the third.
Returning from an injury sustained on Oct. 17, Matteau assisted on both Sislo and Timmins' goals.
"It's been a long 12 days, but it felt good to be back," Matteau said. "I think our line clicked tonight and glad we got the win.
"We're all good skaters, Black and Sislo are two of the fastest guys on this team, so I kind of used that and chipped pucks for them. We just kind of worked down low, kept it simple and once we got more comfortable tried a little bit more and it ended up working."
Corbin McPherson, Raman Hrabarenka, Paul Thompson and Steve Bernier also had helpers during the contest.
Between the pipes, Keith Kinkaid improved to 4-0-1 and had 30 stops, including six in the first, 10 in the second and 14 in the third.
The Devils have been plagued by slow starts this season. They have been outscored 8-7 in the first, but have come on strong in the second and third periods, outscoring opponents 25-6.
"We battled back and we found a way," said Head Coach Rick Kowalsky. "You certainly take some pride in that. Keith had to get stronger and continue to be strong right until the end.
"We have to be better, but we certainly like the fact that we have found a way to score some goals and get back in it. There were times where we elevated our play and our compete level, but consistently their level was better than ours."
Albany was outshot, 32-17, and went 1-5 on the power play and 4-5 on the penalty kill.
