Utica Comets News Release
Binghamton, NY - The Utica Comets scored three unanswered goals to complete a comeback against the Binghamton Senators on Saturday night at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.
Ryan Flanagan scored the first period's lone goal just three minutes into the game. His wrist shot was assisted by Jack Rodewald and Ben Harpur for his eighth of the year. The Senators outshot the Comets during the period by a margin of 13-10. Thatcher Demko highlighted the period by turning aside three consecutive shots around the net in the middle of the stanza.
The Senators extended the lead at 13:57 of the second period with a goal from Casey Bailey. The forward scored when his pass to the slot bounced directly back to his stick. Bailey then fired his 15th goal of the year from Francis Perron and Nick Paul. Cody Kunyk responded with 1:02 left of the second frame after the Comets were awarded a double minor power play. His 10th of the year was scored via a wrist shot and assisted by Chad Billins and Curtis Valk.
Just one minute into the third period, Borna Rendulic scored after a Mike Zalewski shot hit the end boards and slid to the slot. His ninth of the year was scored directly after the power play and also assisted by Colby Robak. At 15:21, Kunyk scored his second of the night with a pass to the back door from Darren Archibald. The play was started by Chad Billins to give the Comets the team's first lead of the night. Despite the Senators pulling the goalie for the extra attacker, the Comets held the lead to win 3-2.
Demko made 30 saves to move his record to 11-11-4. Matt O' Connor stopped 24 shots and his record dropped to 11-13-1.
The Comets scored on one power play out of three chances but killed all four penalties.
The Comets return to the AUD next Friday against the Senators for a 7 p.m. game. Fans are encouraged to utilize the ticket exchange website, StubHub!. The game will be broadcasted live on 94.9 KROCK and can be viewed on AHL Live.
