
Wolves Pull Away from Wild 4-1

ROSEMONT, IL - The Iowa Wild (26-23-5-2, 59 points) were defeated by the Chicago Wolves (32-17-4-3, 71 points) 4-1 on Saturday night in front of 9,531 fans at Allstate Arena. Wolves' defenseman Vince Dunn scored with 5:15 remaining in regulation, breaking a 1-1 tie and propelling the Wolves past the Wild. Chicago defender Morgan Ellis added two goals in 18 seconds for the three-goal differential. Chicago goalie Pheonix Copley (15-6-3) stopped 29 of 30 for the victory. Iowa goalie Steve Michalek (10-11-1) made 22 saves on 25 shots. Wild forward Tyler Graovac scored his club's lone goal. Iowa and Chicago will meet again at 3 PM on Sunday at Allstate Arena.
The Wolves jumped out to 1-0 lead at 7:31 of the first period after Alex Friesen netted his second goal of the season. Forwards MacKenzie MacEachern and Scooter Vaughn each picked up an assist on the game's first goal. Friesen carried the puck into the Iowa zone on the left wing side. He fired a shot that beat goalie Steve Michalek on the glove side. The Wild responded at 10:21 with a goal by Tyler Graovac, his fourth of the year. The Wild forced a turnover in the Wolves zone and Graovac ripped a shot from the high slot, beating Copley on the glove side. Defenseman Mike Reilly and rookie forward Alex Tuch each had an assist on the tally as the teams went to the locker room tied 1-1 after one period of play.
After a scoreless second period, Wolves defenseman Vince Dunn broke a 1-1 tie at 14:45 of the final period, Dunn followed up on a centering pass from Andrew Agozzino for his ninth goal of the season and a 2-1 lead. Defenseman James Wisniewski added an assist on the goal. The Wolves made it a 3-1 lead at 16:14 as defenseman Morgan Ellis launched a shot from the Iowa blue line. His seventh goal of the season was set up by Jordan Caron and Agozzino. Ellis added an empty-net goal at 16:32 to make it a 4-1 final.
After a lengthy road trip with games in Chicago, Rockford, Texas and Milwaukee, Iowa returns home to play the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday, Mar. 18 at 6 PM at Wells Fargo Arena. The St. Patrick's Day game features a postgame concert with Gaelic Storm, sponsored by 100.3 The Bus, Jim Beam and My Satellite Guy. VIP packages are available starting at $20. The first 1,500 fans to the game receive an Iowa Wild Irish themed hat, sponsored by 95 KGGO and LIUNA. In a partnership with Jim Beam and NASH FM, fans 21 and older are able to purchase the "The Big Ginger" drink special. It is also Jim Beam Night. Subway Combo Packs are available for purchase at the game. Brewdog packs are also available for purchase at the game, presented by Legends American Grill and Bud Light. The Wild will also don St. Patrick's Day themed specialty jerseys for the game. The team wears the specialty jerseys for all three home games in March, culminating with a live postgame jersey auction on Saturday, Mar. 31.
