Utica Comets News Release
Despite outshooting the Hamilton Bulldogs 28-20, the Utica Comets fell to the Bulldogs, 1-0, in their fourth and final preseason game.
For the second time in the preseason, the Comets were shutout.
The Bulldogs notched their first win of the preseason behind a Sven Andrighetto second period goal.
Both teams were kept off the scoreboard in the first period. The Comets fired seven shots at Bulldogs' goaltender, Robert Mayer, but could not find the back of the net. The Comets controlled most of the play as the Bulldogs managed just four shots on Eriksson.
Just 3:57 into the second period, the Bulldogs got on the board when they scored the only tally they would need, as Andrighetti rang a shot off the post and past Eriksson. The Comets once again finished the period with a shots advantage, as they led the period 11-9.
The third period saw a lot of back and forth action, as the teams combined for 17 shots. Just like the first period, neither team was able to find a way to put the puck in the net.
Eriksson took the loss for the Comets, despite making 19-of-20 saves. Bulldogs goaltenders, Robert Mayer, and Dustin Tokarski teamed up for the shutout, as they stopped all 28 Comets shots.
The teams combined to go 0-for-5 on the powerplay, as the Comets went 0-for-2, while the Bulldogs went 0-for-3.
The Comets finished the preseason at 1-3. The Comets open up the 2013-14 regular season in Rochester against the Americans on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7:00 p.m. Tiny's Grill and the Comets are teaming up to offer fans a fan bus trip to the Oct. 11 game.
