SPRINGDALE, AR- The Northwest Arkansas Naturals used a four-run seventh inning to overcome a five-run deficit and defeat the Tulsa Drillers 7-6 on Wednesday night at Arvest ballpark. The win was the third straight one-run victory by the Naturals over the Drillers.
The Drillers took the lead in in the first inning getting an RBI single from first baseman Ben Paulsen to make it a 1-0 game.
The Drillers picked up two more runs in the top of the third inning getting back-to-back home runs from Jonathan Herrera and Nolan Arenado to make it a 3-0 game.
The Naturals offense picked up a run in the bottom of the third inning getting an RBI triple from Rey Navarro to cut the lead to 3-1. Angelys Nina got a lead off triple from Kent Matthes and he later scored on a sacrifice fly from catcher Jost Gonzalez to push their lead to 4-1.
The Drillers (40-31) picked up two more runs to make it a 6-1 game. The Naturals battled back for the third straight night. Brian Fletcher reached on an error, and later scored on an RBI triple from Paulo Orlando. Orlando scored on a sacrifice fly from Eric Duncan to cut the lead to 6-3.
The Drillers defense helped out the Naturals (38-33) surrendering four unearned runs in the seventh inning. The unearned runs put the Naturals back on top 7-6. The five-run deficit is the largest that the Naturals have overcome this season. Orlando led the way for the Naturals' offense driving home three runs.
Ryan Dennick (3-1) worked three innings allowing just two hits while striking out four to pick up his third win of the season. Patrick Keating recorded the last out for the Naturals to pick up his eighth save of the season. Joey Williamson (2-2) took the loss for the Drillers allowing two unearned runs in an inning and two-thirds of work.
The Naturals will go for a sweep of the four-game series with the Drillers tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. Justin Marks (3-3, 3.49) will take the mound for the Naturals to against the Drillers Edwar Cabrera (7-4, 2.97). The game can be heard on News Talk 1030 KFAY.
