San Antonio Missions News Release

San Antonio - The San Antonio Missions began the second half of the season with a 2-1 loss in the 12-inning to the visiting Corpus Christi Hooks, their second straight loss in extra innings.

Jake Blackwood rebounded from last night's hitless game by going yard in the third inning to give the Missions an early 1-0 lead. He is now hitting 10-21 in his last five games. The Hooks responded in the fifth on a rare RBI double by Corpus Christi starting pitcher Ross Seaton to bring home the tying run. That hit was only his second double this season.

San Antonio experienced the wrath of third base umpire Brett Terry in the bottom of the eighth as he ejected pinch runner T.J. Steele after sliding recklessly into second and Missions' manager John Gibbons for arguing the call.

The Missions tried to get something going in the ninth with back-to-back hits by Reymond Fuentes and Dean Anna. Jonathan Galvez then moved the runners to second and third on a broken bat ground out to shortstop only to have Nate Freiman strike out swinging.

Fuentes was intentionally walked after San Antonio reliever Tom Layne hit a one out stand up double down the right field line in the 11-inning. After an Anna flyout to deep center, Galvez then struck out looking on four pitches to end the inning sending the game into 12 innings for the second straight game.

Corpus Christi late-game pinch hitter Adam Bailey sent a ball back up the middle to score Drew Muren to give the Hooks a 2-1 lead. Missions' pinch hitter Michael Wing hit a two-out single in the 12 to give San Antonio some hope. However, he was then forced out at second after a soft grounder by right fielder Blackwood.

San Antonio falls to 28-42 overall (0-1 for the second half) as Corpus Christi improves to 38-33 overall. Tomorrow's game features Missions' Josh Geer (2-2, 5.77 ERA) going against the Hooks' righty Jose Cisnero (4-6, 3.86 ERA).
