5 Things You Need to Know About #COLvFCD

Playoff Clinching Scenarios

FC Dallas can clinch a berth to the 2019 Audi MLS Playoffs this Sunday under any of the following scenarios:

FC Dallas beats Colorado, and San Jose loses to Seattle - Colorado would be eliminated and San Jose would be four points behind FCD with just one game remaining, eliminating them from overtaking FC Dallas.

FC Dallas beats Colorado, and Portland draws or loses to Sporting KC . - Colorado would be eliminated and, best-case scenario (a draw in this situation) for Portland's rest of 2019 would be a win on Decision Day against San Jose. If Portland wins that game, it would finish with a maximum 49 points, and San Jose would finish with a maximum of 47 points, which would be one point behind FC Dallas with a Colorado win.

FC Dallas draws with Colorado, and San Jose loses to Seattle, and Portland loses to Sporting KC.

- Colorado would be eliminated, San Jose wouldn't be able to overtake FC Dallas with a loss, even if it beats Portland on Decision Day - the maximum number of points it could allocate with a loss this weekend would be 47, but that would mean the Timbers lose on Decision Day, eliminating them from playoff contention. If Portland loses Sunday night, the maximum number of points it could allocate would be 48, and a win on Decision Day would eliminate San Jose.

Cobra Strikes Again

Forward Zdenek "Cobra" Ondrasek continued his late season goal-scoring run with another strike on Sunday to earn a point against New York City FC. Cobra now has five goals and two assists on the season, all coming in his last five appearances.

Forward Flexibility

A hallmark of Luchi Gonzalez's first season in charge has been the flexibility among Dallas' forwards. Dominique Badji, Michael Barrios and Jesus Ferreira have all lined up as the center forward, as well as on the wing or in the midfield. Last week, Barrios lined up as the main striker against Seattle Sounders before shifting to the right wing in Dallas' most recent match- a 1-1 draw with New York City.

About Colorado

Despite sitting six points below the playoff line in the Western Conference, Colorado still holds a slim chance of reaching the playoffs thanks to a remarkable midseason turnaround. The Rapids began 2019 poorly, going winless in their first 11 matches, including an eight-game losing streak. Recently, however, Colorado has won four of their last five, including victories over Seattle, LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls.

Against Colorado

FC Dallas has had the edge over Colorado since the league's inception, currently holding a 33-23-11 all-time record. The Rapids have fared better when playing at home, however, with Dallas recording 9-15-11 all-time away record. Last season, Dallas fell 2-1 to Colorado at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on the final day of the 2018 regular season.
