Real Salt Lake News Release
SANDY, Utah - GK Nick Rimando has been iconic in his 13 seasons with Real Salt Lake. Now his name will adorn the street surrounding Rio Tinto Stadium, where so many of those memorable moments took place.
In a ceremony on Friday, Stadium Way - which loops around Rio Tinto Stadium from State Street to 9400 South - will be renamed Rimando Way in honor of the retiring goalkeeper's 13 seasons with Real Salt Lake. Along with Sandy City Mayor Kurt Bradburn and Real Salt Lake Owner Dell Loy Hansen, Rimando was presented with a commemorative street sign on Friday and the club unveiled the official street signs at the intersections on State Street and 9400 South in Sandy. In addition, Mayor Bradburn and Sandy City Council Chair Chris McCandless proclaimed that September 27 is Nick Rimando Day in Sandy City.
Real Salt Lake will take on the Houston Dynamo on Sunday, September 29, in Rimando's final regular season home match at Rio Tinto Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. MT. Tickets to Sunday's match start at just $15 at RSL.com or by calling 844.REAL.TIX.
