Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew SC today announced that the club has signed forward Krisztian Nemeth (pronounced: KRIS-tee-an NAY-meth). Nemeth, 31, most recently played for FC DAC 1904 Dunajska Streda of Slovakia's topflight. In 2015, the forward helped Sporting Kansas City win the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and was also a recipient of the MLS AT&T Goal of the Year award. Nemeth is set to join Crew SC in training and matches upon receipt of his ITC, P-1 Visa and completion of mandatory quarantine period under local government and MLS health and safety protocol. The forward will occupy an international roster spot.
"Krisztian is a seasoned veteran whose international experience will greatly benefit our squad and help increase competition amongst our attacking group," said Crew SC President and General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. "We want to welcome Krisztian to Columbus - a player who is a proven goal scorer and is familiar with our League, we expect him to quickly integrate into our team. We look forward to his contributions to the Club down the stretch this season.
Prior to his time in Slovakia's first-tier Fortuna Liga with FC DAC 1904 Dunajska Streda, Nemeth spent four seasons in MLS, featuring for Sporting Kansas City (2015, 2018-2019) and the New England Revolution (2017-2018). The forward made 82 appearances (52 starts) while registering 20 goals and providing 12 assists in MLS regular-season action. From 2016-2017, Nemeth spent two seasons with Al-Gharafa SC of the top-flight Qatar Stars League, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists in 24 league appearances (22 starts).
Nemeth signed his first professional contract at age 15 with MTK Budapest FC of the Hungarian topflight in 2005, playing with the club from 2005-2007. The forward joined Liverpool FC of the English Premier League in 2007. During his time at Liverpool, Nemeth was the 2007-08 Barclays Premier Reserve League's top scorer, tallying nine goals in 12 matches while helping the Liverpool Reserves win the Premier Reserve League National title that season.
At the international level, Nemeth has earned 37 caps for the Hungary National Team, scoring four goals since making his debut in a 2010 friendly against Germany (May 29). The forward most recently saw action as a substitute in a 2019 European Championship Qualifying during a 3-1 victory over Azerbaijan (August 6). Nemeth also featured for Hungary at Under-17, U-19, U-20 and U-21 levels, including helping his country to a third-place finish at the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt.
Next up, Crew SC hosts the Montreal Impact on Wednesday, October 7 [7:30 p.m. ET / FOX Sports Ohio, FOX Sports GO (Stream) / 97.1 The Fan & 971TheFan.com (English), ColumbusCrewSC.com (Spanish)].
