NEW YORK - Sporting Kansas City forward Alan Pulido was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week for the 15th week of the 2020 MLS season.
Pulido recorded the first two-goal performance of his MLS career on Saturday in Sporting Kansas City's 2-1 win over the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Stadium. Pulido has five goals and four assists this season, as Sporting KC is ranked third in Western Conference standings with 23 points (7-5-2 overall record).
Sporting Kansas City were first to strike after Pulido opened the scoring in the 34th minute. Pulido received a through ball from Gianluca Busio, while making a slicing run that split two Dynamo defenders before tucking away a low, driven shot to the far post for a 1-0 lead. Pulido tallied the brace in the 73rd minute, giving Sporting KC a 2-0 advantage when he received another pass into the box from Busio for a sliding finish that chipped the already diving goalkeeper.
Sporting Kansas city continues action this week on Wednesday when hosting Chicago Fire FC (8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN+ / FOX Sports KC / WGN-TV).
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
