Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew SC (5-9-11, 26 points) travels to face the LA Galaxy (9-4-13, 40 points) tomorrow, September 3. The contest kicks-off at 10:30 p.m. ET and is set to be televised regionally on The CW Columbus, Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and BCSN2, with Neil Sika and Dwight Burgess on the call. Coverage on The CW Columbus begins at 10:30 p.m. ET. Exclusively on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and BCSN2, "Crew SC Matchday," the pre-match show hosted by Chris Doran, begins at 10:00 p.m. ET, with "Crew SC Post-Match" immediately following the action. Tomorrow's match also airs locally on the radio on CD102.5 FM in English, featuring simulcast audio from the television broadcast. La Mega 103.1 FM has the match airing in Spanish, with Juan Valladares behind the microphone. The club's official website, ColumbusCrewSC.com, is set to stream the English-language radio broadcast online.
Tomorrow's match is the first and only meeting of the 2016 Major League Soccer regular season between Columbus and Western Conference opponent LA as well as a continuation of Crew SC's current three-match stretch all against Western Conference sides. All-time, Crew SC is 16-14-10 against LA, including a mark of 7-10-4 in Southern California.
Following this match, Columbus concludes its three-match run against Western Conference opponents when Vancouver Whitecaps FC visits MAPFRE Stadium on Saturday, September 10. Crew SC then concludes the 2016 regular season with seven straight matches against Eastern Conference foes.
This is the first meeting between Columbus and LA since June 13, 2015 as well as the Black & Gold's first trip to StubHub Center to meet the Galaxy since July 4, 2013. That represents the longest active stretch between Crew SC's most recent visit to any current League opponent's home stadium by over one full season. The second-longest gap is Houston, which Crew SC last visited in its 2015 MLS season opener on March 7 of that year.
In this clash, Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter is returning to the StubHub Center for the first time as the Black & Gold boss. Berhalter made 52 appearances (50 starts) with one assist in the regular season as a player for LA from 2009-2011, winning the 2011 MLS Cup. That season, he also served as a player-coach under current LA coach Bruce Arena.
Additionally, Black & Gold midfielder/defender Hector Jimenez is slated to return to LA for the first time since joining Crew SC from the Galaxy ahead of the 2014 campaign. Jimenez won the 2011 and 2012 MLS Cups with the Galaxy, making 43 appearances (28 starts) for the team between 2011-2013, scoring four goals and adding six assists.
