Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - The Columbus Crew have acquired up to $200,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) via trade with Real Salt Lake in exchange for Philip Quinton. The Crew will receive a guaranteed $150,000 in 2024 GAM and a conditional $50,000 in GAM if certain performance incentives are met. The 24-year-old defender departs after three seasons in Columbus, initially joining Crew 2 in 2022 prior to signing with the First Team for 2023 and 2024.
"We thank Phil for his contributions and professionalism since joining our Club in 2022," said Columbus Crew President and General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. "Phil was instrumental in helping us secure the first-ever MLS NEXT Pro Cup, and based on his commitment and development, he earned a spot with our First Team to support our 2023 MLS Cup championship season. We appreciate Phil's efforts and wish him the best with Real Salt Lake."
Selected in the First Round of the 2022 MLS SuperDraft (25th overall), Quinton subsequently signed an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract with Crew 2 on March 17, 2022. In his rookie season with Crew 2, Quinton appeared in 19 matches (17 starts) in MLS NEXT Pro as Crew 2 captured the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro Cup with a 4-1 victory over St Louis CITY2 on Oct. 8, 2022.
He signed a First Team contract with the Crew prior to the start of the 2023 season, and since appeared in 13 regular season games (11 starts) and scored his first MLS goal in a 6-1 victory over Atlanta United on March 25, 2023.
