Columbus Blue Jackets Re-Sign Bellefeuille and Walser

Syracuse, NY (August 28, 2002) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets (NHL) have re-signed center Blake Bellefeuille and defenseman Derrick Walser.

Bellefeuille, 24, appeared in 75 games with Syracuse last year, recording 11 goals, 19 assists and 33 penalty minutes. Bellefeuille played in two games with Columbus, making his NHL debut November 27 against Phoenix. He recorded his first NHL point, an assist, November 29 versus St. Louis. A native of Framingham, Massachusetts, Bellefeuille was signed as a free agent by Columbus on May 31, 2000.

Walser, 24, played in 73 games with the Crunch last season, setting a team record for goals by a defenseman with 23. The Crunch's only All-Star representative last season, Walser's 23 goals was tops among AHL defenseman and his 61 points tied him for the AHL lead. A native of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Walser made his NHL debut April 10 against San Jose and scored his first NHL goal April 12 against Atlanta. Originally signed as a free agent by Calgary on October 16, 1998, Walser was signed as a free agent by Columbus on September 12, 2001.
