EARLY OFFENSE LEADS FIREFLIES TO 10-5 VICTORY: The Columbia Fireflies bats led the way, scoring six runs in the first three innings in a 10-5 win over the Augusta GreenJackets Thursday night at Segra Park. The scoring started immediately after Maikel Garcia led off the first with a double, Herard Gonzalez tried to move him over with a bunt. Augusta's (9-12) starter, Tyler Owens (L, 0-3) grabbed the ball and errantly threw it over to third, which allowed Garcia to score the first run of the game. Darryl Collins was able to rope a single to left to score Hernandez and Columbia (13-8) ended the first frame up by a pair. In the third Brady McConnell slapped a single up the gut to score Garcia and put ducks on the pond for Omar Hernandez's first homer of the season. The blast scored three and pushed the Fireflies in front 6-0. The blasts didn't stop there. Collins added his first career homer, a no doubter to the BoJangle's Berm in left field in the fourth to push the lead to 9-0. After that, McConnell hit his third of the season the next inning to score Columbia's final run. McConnell is tied with Jake Means for the most homers on the team. He also has a six-game hitting streak with today's 2-3 effort. McConnell's streak is tied for the fourth-longest on the team this season.

CENTENNIAL MATCH-UP: Tonight marks the 101st time that Augusta and Columbia face-off against each other and after last night's 10-5 victory, both teams have claimed 50 games a piece. So far this season, Columbia leads the series 5-4.

MILESTONE WATCH: The Columbia Fireflies pitching staff paces the Low-A East with 267 strikeouts this season. The Charleston RiverDogs have the second most punchouts in the league this season with 251. Columbia's mark is actually good for the third-most of any team in Minor League Baseball. The Modesto Nuts have recorded the most of any of the 120 teams, with 290 this season.

I THINK WE'RE CATCHING ON: Columbia has primarily utilized two catchers this season so far, Kale Emshoff and Omar Hernandez. Through the first 19 games, the two have had vastly different fortune handling the pitching staff. With Emshoff behind the dish, Columbia is 4-3 and pitchers have a 2.51 ERA in 61 innings, meanwhile, when Hernandez lines up 60'6" away from the arms on the bump, the team is 5-4 and has spun an 5.75 ERA through 76.2 innings.

MAGIC NUMBER: The offense has come in spurts for the Columbia Fireflies in 2021, but the magic number for the team is four. When the Fireflies score four runs in a game, they are 12-2 this season. When Columbia scores three or less in a game, they are 0-6.

EVERYONE WANTS TO BE APART OF A TURNAROUND: After giving up a run in two innings of relief work at Augusta May 8, it looked like righty Nathan Webb would have another season similar to his previous four years in Minor League Baseball. The Missouri-native has a 5.86 career ERA. Since then, the righty has spun seven scoreless innings and has fanned 13 batters while allowing only one hit. His opposing batting average has dropped from .231 to .121 and his season WHIP is now an incredible 0.80.
