Columbia Bullpen Shines in Loss to Lexington

COLUMBIA, SC - Matt Blackham and Austin McGeorge shined for the Fireflies out of the bullpen. The righty relievers combined for eight strikeouts in four scoreless innings. Columbia fell 4-0 to Lexington on Saturday night. Spirit Communications Park witnessed a tremendous crowd - the second sellout (7,534 fans) of the season.
Lexington (6-11) tallied its four runs in the first two innings. Chris DeVito and Khalil Lee each clubbed a two-run homer for the Legends. Colin Holderman (L, 1-1) made his third start of the season for Columbia (10-7) and lasted five innings. After a tough first two frames, the right-hander found a groove and did not allow a hit in the next three innings.
Jace Vines (W, 1-2) tossed six scoreless innings and absorbed just three hits for the Legends. Gene Cone recorded one of these hits, which extended his on-base streak to 10 games.
Brandon Brosher collected Columbia's fourth hit of the game in the ninth inning. Lexington reliever Garrett Davila bounced back and earned the save. The Fireflies have experienced eight shutouts through their first 17 games. Despite the loss Saturday night, Columbia has won five of these type of games.
The Fireflies are back in action on Sunday afternoon in game four of this series against the Legends. First pitch is set for 2:05 p.m. at Spirit Communications Park. Southpaw Blake Taylor (0-2, 4.09) makes his third start for Columbia. Gerson Garabito (1-1, 3.50) starts for the Legends.
