CHARLESTON, WV - Nick Fanti threw six scoreless innings to lead the BlueClaws to a 2-1 win in game one of a double-header on Sunday at West Virginia.
Zach Morris came into a jam in the seventh inning (of the seven-inning game) and got Ty Kelly to ground out with the bases loaded to end the game and earn his first save of the season. West Virginia got an RBI double by Stephen Alemais to cut Lakewood's lead to 2-1 off Ismael Cabrera.
For Fanti, the outing was the longest of his three-year career as he won his first game (1-0) as a BlueClaw in the process.
Lakewood (10-7) has now won three games in a row while the Power (7-10) have lost three straight.
The BlueClaws got on the board in the sixth. Mickey Moniak led off the inning with a double. After a bunt single from Alex Wojociechowski, a SAC fly by Cord Sandberg gave the BlueClaws a 1-0 lead.
The BlueClaws added an insurance run in the seventh on a double-play groundout by Luke Williams.
Power starter James Marvel went 5.1 innings and allowed one run on five hits.
The BlueClaws will open a three-game series with Delmarva on Monday night in Salisbury, Maryland at 7:05 pm. LHP Bailey Falter (0-0, 2.45) will start the series opener for the BlueClaws.

West Virginia topped the BlueClaws 12-1 in the second game of Sunday's double-header.
- CHARLESTON, WV - West Virginia blew open a 4-1 game with five runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth as the Power denied the BlueClaws a series sweep with a 12-1 win over Lakewood in the second game of a Sunday double-header at Appalachian Power Park.
The teams split their Sunday double-header after the BlueClaws (10-8) won the first game 2-1 over the Power (8-10). Lakewood, however, did take three of four in the series, the last meetings between the two teams until August.
Carlos Munoz, Chris Harvey and Trae Arbet each drove in three runs for the Power in the win.
West Virginia blew open the game with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Carlos Munoz had an RBI single off the right field wall while Kevin Mahala added a two-run double and Chris Harvey an RBI single off Kenny Koplove. They added three more in the sixth, including two in a Trae Arbet single, for a 12-1 lead.
The Power had scored just two runs in the first three games of the series before their game two explosion on Sunday afternoon.
West Virginia got two quick runs in the first inning, one on a groundout that scored Logan Ratledge, and another on Carlos Munoz's third home run of the year.
After the BlueClaws got a run on a Brett Barbier groundout, Trae Arbet added an RBI double in the fourth while Chris Harvey added an RBI single for a 4-1 Power lead.
Lakewood's Felix Paulino, who allowed four runs in four innings, took the loss to fall to 1-1 while Power reliever Geoff Hartlieb earned the win with two scoreless innings in relief. Starter Oddy Nunez gave up one run in four innings.
The BlueClaws head to Delmarva to start a three-game series with the Power on Monday night. LHP Bailey Falter (0-0) starts for Lakewood opposite LHP Travis Seabroke (1-1).
