San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- The San Angelo Colts used a two-run sixth inning to defeat the Alexandria Aces, 3-2, Saturday night at Foster Field.
Designated hitter Kyle Nichols hit a pair of RBI doubles, and scored the winning run. He went 2-for-4 on the night.
Nichols's first RBI double was in the first inning, and it scored second baseman Jon Dziomba to tie the game at one. Dziomba reached base with a one-out single, and advanced into scoring position courtesy of an error by Aces' right fielder Austin Newell.
Alexandria capitalized on two consecutive Colts' errors in the third. Second baseman Eddie Murray scored from third base on the second error, giving the Aces a 2-1 lead.
Colts' starter Corey Frerichs (2-1) didn't allow a run after the third inning, though. Frerichs earned the win, allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits through six innings. He also struck out seven batters.
San Angelo tied the game again, and took the lead for good in the sixth. First baseman Steve Rinaudo hit a leadoff single and scored the tying-run on Nichols's second RBI double. Nichols came home from third on a sacrifice fly by catcher Chris Caves.
Aces' starter Mike Loseke (1-1) gave up all three of San Angelo's runs, and therefore took the loss. He struck out seven batters in as many innings of work.
Closer Alfredo Caballero pitched a scoreless ninth for the Colts to earn his fifth save of the year.
