Colts Blow Away Wings, 15-4, to Sweep Series

Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

After surrendering nine earned runs in the first two innings, the WhiteWings were blown away by the San Angelo Colts, 15-4, completing the series sweep.

The 'Wings allowed more than 11 runs in each of their four games this series and were outscored 50-21.

Despite the series sweep, the WhiteWings hold on to their first place lead atop the South Division standings, but hold just a one game lead over second place San Angelo, who move to 11-9 on the year.

Leivi Ventura would give the 'Wings an early 1-0 lead with a solo shot over the left field fence, but the Colts would tack on six runs in the bottom of the first on starting pitcher Alexander Concepcion (2-2 9.37 ERA).

While the 'Wings would get three of those runs back thanks to an Edgar Trejo homerun and Carl Johnson RBI double, things didn't get any easier on Concepcion.

Taking the mound in the bottom of the second trailing 6-4, the Colts started the inning off with back-to-back-to-back home runs over the fence at Foster Field to take a 9-4 lead. Mark Ramos, Daryl Jones and Clay Calfee tallied the homeruns for the Colts.

One hit batsman later, Concepcion was pulled. In one innings worth of work, Concepcion allowed nine earned runs.

The lead grew from there in the bottom of the fifth inning when the Colts scored five runs on just three hits. Getting runs from a two-RBI single from Ramos, a walk to Clay Calfee with the bases loaded, a sac-fly by Cory Patton and an RBI single from Davis Page gave San Angelo a 14-4 lead.

Gunner Glad would add another run in the bottom of the seventh with a solo homerun over the left field wall.

The WhiteWings' next game is on Wednesday, June 15th at McAllen. Fans can listen in live starting at 6:50 PM on 956sports.com and on WhiteWingsBaseball.com.
