Martin Pitches Thunder Past Roadrunners

EDINBURG, Texas---Kendrick Martin pitched seven scoreless innings leading the McAllen Thunder past the Edinburg Roadrunners 8-2 Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Martin (1-1) did not allow a run in seven innings while scattering three hits and stirking out two.

The Thunder (10-10) got on the board in the bottom of the third with some help from the Edinburg defense. Two errors in the inning allowed four unearned runs to score. R.J. Harris and Adam Matos each had RBI singles helping McAllen to the 4-0 lead.

Wilson Batista scored another run in the bottom of the fourth inning when he was obstructed by the third baseman and that pushed the lead to 5-0 Thunder.

In the bottom of the fifth, Zach Mandelblatt hit a solo home run to the left field bullpen extending McAllen's lead to 6-0.

The Thunder added two more in the bottom of the sixth when Mike Goss hit an RBI double to left center field that allowed Yaibel Tamayo to score from first. After moving to third on a passed ball, Goss came into score on a sacrifice fly by Yordanys Perez that made it 8-0.

Gabe Memmert got the Roadrunners (7-13) on the board in the top of the eighth with a solo home run to straight away center field which made it 8-1.

Edinburg added one more run in the top of the ninth on a Jason Thomas RBI single but Luis Matamoros got the final out of the game giving McAllen the 8-2 victory.

Both teams have Tuesday off before the Thunder welcome the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings to Edinburg Baseball Stadium for a four-game series starting Wednesday night.

Edinburg will travel to San Angelo for a four-game series against the Colts which begins Wednesday night at Foster Field.
