Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, CO. - Colorado goaltender Pavel Francouz made 30 saves on 31 shots, while Max McCormick each netted a goal to push the Eagles to a 2-1 victory over the Tucson Roadrunners on Sunday. The win was Colorado's fourth-consecutive victory, which ties a season high for the team. Forward Andrew Agozzino also notched an assist in the contest, giving him at least one point in each of his last 10 games.
The scoring started when an Eagles turnover at the Tucson blue line sent Roadrunners forward Jens Looke racing down the right wing before snapping a wrist shot from the top of the circle past Francouz to give Tucson a 1-0 edge at the 12:20 mark of the first period.
Colorado would strike back when McCormick sliced towards the net from the end line and tucked a shot past Roadrunners goaltender Hunter Miska to even the score at 1-1 with 1:32 remaining in the opening frame.
Heading into the second period, the Eagles would claim their first lead of the afternoon when Meloche tracked down a rebound in the slot and snapped the puck into the back of the net to give Colorado the 2-1 advantage with 3:58 left to play in the period. Tucson would finish the second stanza by outshooting Colorado 11-5, but the Eagles would carry their 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
The third period would see Tucson outshoot Colorado for a second-consecutive period, 15-10. However, Francouz would make several dramatic saves to keep the Eagles in the driver's seat and help carry the club to a 2-1 victory in front of a sold-out crowd of 5,289 at the Budweiser Events Center. The win also puts Colorado three points ahead of Tucson for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Pacific Division.
The Eagles finished the contest going 0-for-5 on the power play but were a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
Colorado returns to action when the Eagles travel to San Diego to face the San Diego Gulls on Friday, March 8th at 8:00pm MT.
