Colorado Rapids News Release
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - The Colorado Rapids have acquired defender Andrew Gutman from Atlanta United FC in exchange for $300,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM), $100,000 in 2024 GAM and a 2023 international roster slot, the club announced today. Atlanta could also acquire up to $150,000 in conditional GAM if Gutman reaches multiple performance thresholds during his time with Colorado.
"We're delighted to add a player of Andrew's quality and experience to our roster during this transfer window," said Colorado Rapids President Pádraig Smith. "Andrew is an attacking fullback in his prime and possesses the physical attributes and mentality that we are keen to bring into our group. We look forward to welcoming him to Colorado as we continue our push to get back in the playoff race."
Gutman, 26, joins the Rapids from Atlanta United where he spent the previous two seasons and recorded seven goals and seven assists across 43 regular-season appearances for the Five Stripes. Prior to his time in Georgia, Gutman spent a season on loan with the New York Red Bulls in 2021, logging two goals and two assists across 22 regular-season appearances, as well as starting and playing all 120 minutes in their First Round MLS Cup Playoffs match against the Philadelphia Union.
A product of the Chicago Fire FC Academy, Gutman began his professional career with Scottish Premiership side Celtic FC in 2019, although he spent the first half of the year on loan with Charlotte Independence in the USL Championship, and later, FC Cincinnati. He would go on to spend the remainder of the 2019 and the 2020 seasons on loan with the Orange & Blue, making 29 appearances and logging an assist in that span. Gutman then signed with Atlanta United ahead of the 2021 season before being loaned to the Red Bulls.
