WINDSOR, CO – The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League (CHL) are 25-10-2 on the 2003-04 season and have 52 points. They are currently in first place in the Northwest Division and tied for second place in the league overall with Amarillo.

EAGLES ON FIRE

Left winger Ryan Tobler earned his second hat trick with the Eagles (second of his career) along with scoring the game winning goal against Odessa, January 9. Netminder Ryan Bach earned his fourth shutout of the season against Odessa, January 10 in the team's second ever televised game.

Notes: The Colorado Eagles have faced the Oilers three times this season for a 1-2-0 record; October 17 at the Budweiser Events center in the Eagles season opener, the Eagles suffered a disappointing 3-2 loss; in Tulsa, October 25, the Eagles were defeated for a second time by the Oilers, 4-2; December 20 was the last match up between the teams (in Tulsa) the Eagles finally earned a victory against Tulsa, 4-3. As of January 12, the Oilers are in last place in the Northwest division with a 12-16-8 record and 32 points.

Notes: The Colorado Eagles have faced the Scorpions six times this season for a 4-2-0 record; October 31 in New Mexico the Eagles lost to the Scorpions, 5-3; November 7 at the Budweiser Events Center the Eagles thrashed the Scorpions, 8-2; November 14 at the Budweiser Events Center the Eagles were victorious against the Scorpions, 6-3; December 3 at the Budweiser Events Center where the Eagles left winger Ryan Tobler scored the game winning goal with only nine seconds left in overtime, 4-3; December 13 at the Bud Barn in the franchise's first televised game the Eagles lost to the Scorpions 2-1; in New Mexico December 30, Eagles netminder Ryan Bach earned his second shutout of the season in a 4-0 Colorado victory. As of January 12, the Scorpions are in third place with in the Northwest division with a 18-16-3 record and 39 points.

COACH'S SHOW

The Coach's show will air tonight on 1410 the Zone and will be broadcast from Bennigan's in Fort Collins. Coach's show host, Kevin McGlue along with Eagles play-by-play personality Tori Holt, and Head Coach Chris Stewart will discuss the team's last three games and what's ahead for the Eagles. Players will also attend the show to provide additional comments on the past week's games. THE ENTIRE EAGLES HOCKEY TEAM WILL BE AT BENNIGANS FOR THE COACH'S SHOW AND TO SIGN AUTOGRAPH'S JANUARY 19 AT 5 P.M.

The Colorado Eagles are currently first in the Northwest Division and are tied for second overall in the Central Hockey league with the Amarillo Gorillas. The Eagles have two players in the league's top five for points. Eagles right winger Greg Pankewicz and left winger Ryan Tobler are both third in the league with 57 points. Eagles goalie Ryan Bach currently leads the league in minutes in the net (1920:36) and in wins (20). He is fifth in the league for saves with 789. Netminder Gian Baldrica currently has an impressive 1.74 GAA, and is undefeated in his professional career.

January – Colorado Eagles vs Lubbock Cotton Kings EAGLES 6-1

WINDSOR, CO - The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League (CHL) crushed the Lubbock Cotton Kings at home tonight, 6-1. The Eagles sold out their eighteenth consecutive home game tonight, 5,211 fans were in attendance. The Eagles are now 23-10-2 and have 48 points. The Cotton Kings are now 9-17-6 on the season with 24 points. Eagles centers Brad Patterson and Ryan Tobler, defenseman Brad Williamson, right winger Mike McGhan, left winger Karlis Zirnis, and forward Daniel Bohac each scored in the match up. Eagles goaltender Gian Baldrica recorded his fifth win of the season (continuing his undefeated streak) by saving 23 of 24 shots. Lubbock's only goal was scored by center Jan Melichercik. Cotton Kings netminder Jeremy Symington saved 25 of 31 shots.

Lubbock had a rude awakening in the first period. The Eagles managed to put four goals past Lubbock netminder Jeremy Symington, out shooting the Cotton Kings 14 to five. Eagles scoring started five minutes thirty-seven seconds into the period when Patterson scored, assisted by defensemen Brent Thompson and Williamson. After assisting on the first goal of the game Williamson netted a pass from Patterson (10:28). The Eagles assault persisted when only fifty-six seconds later McGhan scored a power play goal assisted by forward Phil Crowe and defenseman Jesse Cook. The Eagles took it to the Cotton Kings one last time before the period ended when Tobler netted a fast, high shot from Zirnis and forward Daniel Bohac, ending the period with a 4-0 Eagles lead.

Seven minutes forty-seven seconds into the second period Cotton Kings Melichercik managed to get the puck past Baldrica. He was assisted by left winger Paul Fioroni and right winger Dave MacIntyre. With one minute fifty-eight seconds left in the period, Colorado's Zirnis took a pass from Williamson all the way down the ice and slipped it past Symington, ending the period with a 5-1 Eagles lead.

The only third period goal came on a power play (5:37) when Bohac scored assisted by forward Cam Kuzyk and Thompson. Because the Colorado Eagles scored six goals they earned a free Subway sandwich for every fan in the sold out crowd. This is the sixth time (and the second time against Lubbock) that fans have enjoyed a free sandwich from Subway. The last Subway giveaway was January 2 against Oklahoma City when the Eagles shutout the Blazers 6-0.

Saving 23 of 24 shots, Baldrica earned his fifth win with the Eagles and of his professional career, thus remaining undefeated in his first season as a professional.

January 9 – Colorado Eagles vs Odessa Jackalopes EAGLES 4-1

WINDSOR, CO - The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League (CHL) defeated the Odessa Jackalopes at home tonight, 4-1. The Eagles sold out their nineteenth consecutive home game, 5,211 fans were in attendance. The Eagles are now 24-10-2 and have 50 points. The Jackalopes are now 13-22-2 on the season with 28 points. Starting at center (in the place of Riley Nelson) Colorado's Ryan Tobler earned his second career hat trick. Eagles defenseman Igor Bondarevs scored a goal in his first game back from the injured reserve list. Eagles goaltender Ryan Bach recorded his nineteenth win of the season, saving 28 of 29 shots. Odessa's only goal was scored by center Mike Rutter. Jackalopes netminder Mark Cairns saved 34 of 38 shots.

The Jackalopes took an early lead in the first period, when Rutter slipped a shot from left winger Sabastien Thinel past Bach (5:57). The Eagles had 11 shots in the period, but could not get a shot past Cairns. The period ended with a 1-0 Jackalopes lead.

The Eagles struck twice in the second period, both goals were scored by Tobler. Eight minutes thirty-eight seconds into the second period Tobler netted a goal to tie the game, assisted by defenseman Jesse Cook and right winger Greg Pankewicz. With one minute fifty-two seconds left in the period Tobler scored the game winning goal on a pass from left winger Karlis Zirnis and Pankewicz. The period ended with a 2-1 Eagles lead.

Twelve minutes forty-six seconds into the second period Tobler scored for the third time, earning his second career hat trick; the goal was assisted by defensemen Scott Swanson and Bondarevs. For the first time in Colorado Eagles history, Tobler's hat trick was followed by fans throwing their hats onto ice. Fifty-four seconds later (13:40) Bondarevs scored from Pankewicz and Zirnis. The game ended with a 4-1 Eagles victory.

Bach saved 28 of 29 shots, earning a league leading 19 wins. The Eagles out shot the Jackalopes 38 to 29.

January 10 – Colorado Eagles vs Odessa Jackalopes EAGLES 1-0

WINDSOR, CO - The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League (CHL) shutout the Odessa Jackalopes in the team's second televised game of the 2003-04 season, at the Budweiser Events Center this afternoon, 1-0. The Eagles sold out their twentieth consecutive home game, 5,211 fans were in attendance, and the Colorado Eagles one-hundred-thousandth fan was recognized at the game. The Eagles are now 25-10-2 and have 52 points. The Jackalopes are now 12-23-2 on the season with 28 points. The only goal of the game was scored by right winger Greg Pankewicz. Eagles goaltender Ryan Bach earned his fourth shutout of the season, saving 19 shots. Jackalopes netminder Mike Gorman saved an impressive 37 of 38 shots.

For the first time in Colorado's history, the first two periods of play remained scoreless at home. Bach and Gorman were perfect in the net, Bach stopping 5 shots and Gorman stopping 11.

The Eagles struck only forty-eight seconds into the third period, when Pankewicz finally shot one past Gorman. The right winger was assisted on the afternoon's only goal by left winger Ryan Tobler and defenseman Brad Williamson.

Bach earned his fourth shutout of the season, saving 19 shots. The Eagles out shot the Jackalopes 38 to 19. The Eagles are first in the Northwest Division and tied for second in the league overall with the Amarillo Gorillas.
